In addition to teeth that are already missing, dental implants may be used to replace teeth that are too unhealthy to keep in the smile. These unhealthy teeth will need extraction before dental implant placement. Dr. Randall typically recommends IV sedation, ensuring you do not feel pain or remember the details of your surgical experience. If needed, our doctor will perform bone grafting after extraction to promote an ideal environment to anchor a dental implant.
One of the primary obstacles to successful dental implant placement is uncontrolled gum disease. Dr. Randall can provide gum disease treatment in preparation for dental implants in select cases.
Dental implant placement is usually a relatively short procedure and may be performed with IV sedation to eliminate any discomfort. The implants are carefully positioned in the appropriate sites, then left for roughly three months to heal in place, ensuring their long-term health and stability.
If you receive an immediate implant, you will have your extraction and implant placement performed on the same day and may leave the office with a temporary replacement tooth. After full healing, you will visit your general dentist to have the permanent abutment and crown made on the implant.
