Dental implants are considered the gold standard in tooth replacement options. They are the only solution that closely mimic the look, function and permanency of natural teeth. Implants are comprised of a small titanium post, a crown, bridge, or denture restoration, and an abutment to attach them. The implant itself acts similarly to a natural tooth root and the restoration or crown portion serves as the teeth. At Chattanooga Periodontics & Dental Implants, our board certified periodontists are proud to offer this life-changing option for patients. Whether you’re missing one tooth or an entire arch, we have a solution for you.

Dr. Felts Discusses The Natural Appearance and Longevity of Dental Implants
When you visit our office in Chattanooga, TN, we’ll take a 3-D scan that will show us your overall oral structure. We’ll evaluate everything to make sure you’re a good candidate for dental implants. Then, we’ll discuss how many are needed and what type of restoration options you have. Finally, we’ll present appropriate financing information, and schedule you to come back for your implant placement if you’re ready to move forward with treatment. Our office also provides sedation dentistry. Both of our periodontists are certified in offering this comfortable relaxation option.
On the day of your procedure, our periodontist will utilize guided implant technology to insert your teeth with extreme precision. Then, the dental implant is carefully inserted into the jaw bone. A healing cap will be placed over the implant, flush with the gums, and stay in place until everything has fully healed.
Depending on your situation, you may be provided with a provisional restoration to use during the healing process.
You’ll be surprised at how well you feel after your dental implant procedure. Most patients experience little to no pain at all! Since an implant has threads around it, your bone will grow and fuse to it directly. This “osseointegration” process takes several weeks to months. You’ll come in periodically for us to see that everything is healing as it should. Once we’ve determined that your implant is stable enough to withstand biting forces, we will proceed to the next and final step.
If we’re replacing your teeth with crowns or bridges then we’ll remove the temporary, or healing cap, in order to access the top of the implant. An extension known as an abutment will be securely attached to the dental implant, extending past the gum. The new restoration will be permanently bonded on top. If your dental implants were inserted so that you could replace all of your teeth with a full denture, the process is a little different. We’ll insert a similar type of abutment into the dental implant. Then, on the inside of your denture, we will add more attachments known as buttons. When you put the overdenture in your mouth, the buttons will snap around the abutments.
You deserve a healthy, permanent smile. We strive to restore your smile and keep your teeth healthy, functioning and beautiful for a lifetime! Drs. Felts and Randall can help you get your confidence and comfort back through dental implants.
Working together we can get you the smile that your deserve. Whether it’s an easy straightforward case, or if placing your dental implants come with its challenges, we’re the right choice for you.
