When you are a kid, losing a tooth is no big deal. It is a normal part of life. For adults, tooth loss is far less desirable, though hardly uncommon. Millions of Americans lose their teeth due to disease, dental neglect, traumatic accidents, and more. Dental implants provide a stable replacement for missing teeth, restoring your natural smile and allowing you to keep enjoying all your favorite foods.
As two of the most trusted dental implant providers in the Chattanooga region, Dr. Felts and Dr. Randall strive to offer the best periodontal and dental implant care in the southeastern area. Since 1961, the team at Chattanooga Periodontics & Dental Implants has greeted each patient with friendly service and comprehensive care.
Dental implants are small titanium screws that are placed into the jawbone, replacing the lost tooth root. Once the implants are surgically anchored and fully healed, replacement teeth, such as a crown, bridge, or other restoration, can be placed on top. These replacement teeth look and feel just like your natural teeth.

The first step in the dental implant process is an evaluation with Dr. Felts or Dr. Randall. During this appointment, you will provide basic medical information, have images and CT scans taken, and learn more about the dental implant process. Our doctors will ensure a treatment plan that fits your specific needs. Our doctors also screen for gum disease to make sure your opportunity for implant success can be optimized.
Often, unhealthy teeth may need extraction before dental implant placement. Dr. Felts and Dr. Randall typically recommend IV sedation, ensuring you do not feel pain and do not remember the details of your surgical experience. If needed, our doctors will perform bone grafting to ensure the socket is an ideal place to anchor a dental implant.
Dental implant placement is usually a relatively short procedure and may be performed with IV sedation to eliminate any discomfort. The implants are carefully positioned in the appropriate sockets, then left for roughly three months to heal in place, ensuring their long-term health and stability.
If you receive an immediate implant, you will have your extraction and implant placement performed on the same day and leave the office with a temporary replacement tooth. You will need to visit your regular dentist once the implants are anchored in place, at which time the natural-looking replacement teeth will be positioned onto the implants.
Dental implants are uniquely able to preserve both your underlying bone tissue and the health of the adjacent teeth. Because of this, dental implants have emerged as the preferred solution for missing or unhealthy teeth. Implants represent a stable and comfortable tooth replacement option.
Following your dental implant procedure, you should experience only minimal discomfort. Many patients feel ready to return to work and resume their normal activities the very next day.
In terms of aftercare, you should continue regular dental hygiene care, such as brushing, flossing, and keeping the treated area as clean as possible. Our doctors may provide more detailed care instructions during the initial consultation.
