Chattanooga dentist, Dr. Felts, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974, earning his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee, Center for the Health Sciences, in Memphis, Tennessee in 1977. He received his Certificate of General Practice Residency from St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1978. He then attended the School of Dentistry at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, earning his Clinical Certification in Periodontics and receiving his Master of Science in Dentistry in 1980. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1988.
Dr. Felts is active in many dental professional organizations, including The American Dental Association and The American Academy of Periodontology. He is past president of the Tennessee Society of Periodontists (1991-93). He has been a Board Member and Officer of the Southern Academy of Periodontology for over 10 years and served as President of this group in 2000-2001. Dr. Felts has also been very active in the Tennessee Dental Association and local Chattanooga Area Dental Society. He served as President of the Chattanooga Area Dental Society (1997-98) and the Tennessee Dental Association (2013-14).
Dr. Felts has given numerous lectures on periodontics, and is published in several journals. He has held teaching positions at the University of Washington and Chattanooga State Technical Community College.
In addition to being a leading dentist in Chattanooga, TN, Dr. Felts has been a member of several community groups, including the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Executive Board Member and Middle Valley Recreational Association where he coached in the Soccer Program. He is a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church. He has been married to Suzanne Trundle Felts since 1984; they have three married children; Beth, Charlie, and Robert, and six grandsons: Royce, Harrison, Charles, Emerson, Franklin, and Forrest.
