For many of our patients, tooth loss is a matter of urgency. Patients who have missing or unhealthy teeth want to get a replacement as quickly as possible, without having to spend too much time with a big gap in their smile. If you are looking for a fast solution, you may be eligible for immediate implants, a more seamless and efficient form of dental restoration.
Conventional dental implants require multiple appointments. You must first have unhealthy teeth extracted. During a later appointment, your doctor will place the dental implants in the jawbone. Then, once those implants heal and anchor into place, you will visit your regular dentist to receive a replacement tooth.
The teeth in a day concept condenses the timeline considerably, allowing you to simultaneously have an extraction and implant placement. Most importantly, if you are missing a tooth in the front of your mouth, you can receive a temporary replacement tooth. This replacement tooth will provide relief over how you look until a permanent replacement tooth is ready.
Immediate implants offer a shorter procedure timeline. You will spend less time in the dentist’s chair, less time in recovery, and less time without a viable tooth.
In addition, the immediate implants concept tends to promote the healing of the surrounding gums. This healing can ultimately cause the implants to look more natural, specifically by making the teeth look like they are emerging from the gums rather than sitting on top of them.
Dr. Felts Discusses How ‘Teeth in a Day’ Can Give You a Brand New Confident Smile
During the initial consultation, you can anticipate a CT scan and other forms of dental imaging. Our doctors will carefully evaluate the teeth, gums, and bones, ensuring your candidacy for a safe and successful dental implant procedure.
Extractions are performed during the same appointment as the implant placement. You will be placed on IV sedation, ensuring that you are comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure. The doctor will then carefully extract any unhealthy or non-viable teeth.
Once the extraction stage is complete, your doctor will place the implants. Implants are small titanium screws placed into the jawbone and then left to heal in place. Once they fuse with the surrounding bone, they provide a firm anchor for replacement teeth. Your doctor will place a temporary replacement tooth before the end of the appointment.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during their recovery from immediate implants. Over-the-counter remedies, including Tylenol and Advil, are usually most than sufficient for mitigating pain.
“My Periodontist Has The Best Interest In My Oral Health”
For most patients, the notion of a single surgery is much more appealing than a lengthier, multi-step procedure. Many patients do qualify for immediate implants. An exception is patients whose jawbone has become damaged or infected. These patients require a more conventional dental implant process.
